Cooperative Society Releases Information on Pending Debts
The Mau Tea Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited has released information regarding the non-payment of pending debts for tea green leaf supplied by two farmers, identified as Farmer No. 7**1 and Farmer No. 4**3, following the intervention of the Commission pursuant to Section 22(3) of the Access to Information Act, 2016, and Regulation 25(1) of the ATI General Regulations, 2023.
The two farmers filed an appeal for review after the Society failed to process their information request. They had sought information on the non-payment of debts owed for tea green leaf supplied to the Society between December 2023 and February 2024.
“I am writing to seek the assistance of the Commission in claiming payments for tea leaves supplied to Mau Cooperative Society during specific months in 2023 and 2024. My neighbor and I made a formal request for information asking to be paid our dues on June 10, 2025, but we did not receive a response to our email. I have attached the emails and evidence of the quantities supplied to the company for both farmers,” read their appeal for review to the Commission.
The Commission took up the matter with the Chief Executive Officer of Mau Tea Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, requesting an institutional report within seven days to guide appropriate directions on the application.
In his response, the CEO stated that the two farmers had not previously sought information regarding their unpaid tea green leaf supplies and that the request dated June 10, 2025, was not received. However, he proceeded to provide information on the amount owed to the two farmers by the Society. Additionally, he indicated that they were in the process of seeking financing to pay the outstanding dues before the end of the year, aiming to resolve the matter.
