NSSF Pays Deceased Dues After Ombudsman Intervention

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has paid Kshs. 303,735 owed to the estate of a deceased employee of Eldoret Hospital, thanks to the intervention of the Ombudsman.

The widow of the deceased, who until his death on November 29, 2024, was employed as an optometrist at Eldoret Hospital, lodged a complaint with the Commission. She alleged that the NSSF had failed to settle the dues owed to her late husband’s estate, despite his regular remittance of contributions during his employment.

The widow stated that, following her husband’s passing, she submitted a claim for payment of the dues on March 11, 2025. Upon following up on April 9, 2025, she was informed that her claim was being processed and that the NSSF had requested validation of the deceased’s biometrics from the National Registration Bureau. However, after that date, she received no further updates despite repeated follow-ups, prompting her to seek the Commission’s intervention on May 21, 2025.

The Commission took up the matter with the NSSF on June 10, 2025, resulting in the prompt settlement of the outstanding amount of Kshs. 303,735 owed to the deceased’s estate.
