Teacher Paid Salary Dues

A newly employed teacher finally received her salary arrears thanks to the intervention of the Commission.

Ms. Anet Wambugu complained to the Commission alleging failure by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to pay her. According to her, she got employed by TSC as a teacher on 2nd February 2023 but she has not received her salary for February, March, and April 2023 and numerous follow-ups with TSC had not borne any fruits. Her predicament pushed her to seek the intervention of the Commission on 1st May 2023.

The Commission by way of Inquiry took up the matter with the Commission Secretary/ CEO, TSC leading to the payment of salary arrears.

“This is to confirm that the teacher has been paid her salary in May 2023 and the areas for the period of 2nd February 2023 to 31st April 2023 will be paid alongside June 2023 salary,” read a letter from TSC to the Commission.

Ms. Anet in an email to the Commission on 2nd July 2023 confirmed receiving her dues

“I confirm receipt of all my dues from TSC, thank you for the assistance.”

Teachers Service Commission Releases Documents Following Ombudsman Intervention

A retired trainer can finally have his pension processed following the submission of his records to the Ministry of Education, State Department of Vocational and Technical Training by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) thanks to the Intervention of the Commission.

Mr. James Mwai complained to the Commission alleging inordinate delay by the TSC to submit his documents to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) department to enable the processing of his pension. According to him, he retired on 25th May 2021 as a technical trainer at the Nyeri National Polytechnic, and before joining Nyeri National Polytechnic under the Public Service Commission he was employed and registered by the TSC. 

“TSC is still holding my file since I was transferred to TVET. This file is required by TVET so that I can receive my pension; TVET office in Nairobi has been giving me letters to forward to TSC so that my file can be released but TSC has not acted nor responded to my letters and my pension is overdue. I am seeking assistance from your office,” read a complaint by Mr. Mwai to the Commission.

The Commission by way of inquiry took up the matter with the Commission Secretary/ CEO, TSC, leading to the transfer of the documents.

“This is to inform you that the transfer of service documents was prepared and dispatched to the Ministry of Education, State Department of Vocational and Technical Training as per the attached letter,’” read a letter from TSC to the Commission on 21st June 2023.
