Passport Issued Two Years Later

A resident of Mombasa can finally travel following the printing of his passport by the Immigration Department thanks to the intervention of the Ombudsman in a case of inordinate delay.

Mr. Mohamed Ahmed complained to the Commission alleging inordinate delay by the Department to print his passport. According to him, he applied for a passport on 11th June 2021 at the Mombasa Immigration Office and after complying with all the requirements, he was issued a tracking number but his passport was inordinately delayed for over two years prompting him to seek the intervention of the Commission on 16th March 2023.

The Commission by way of inquiry took up the matter with the Director General of Immigration Services. The department confirmed to the Commission that the application was pending at the vetting stage but had since been released and exported to Nairobi for printing. The department assured the Commission that Mr. Ahmed would be notified through a Short Message Service to collect the passport once it was ready.

Mr. Ahmed, in a communication to the Commission on 2nd August 2023, informed the Commission that his passport was issued on 1st August 2023.
