Electricity Connection Done One Year Later

“I am happy to notify you that the above complaint has been resolved. Thank you for your support in this matter,” these were the words of Ahmed Abdi Hassan, a resident of Syokimau, Machakos County, in an email to the Commission.

Mr. Hassan complained to the Commission alleging a delay by Kenya Power to connect his Estate with electricity. According to him, they are a community that acquired land and built houses in Syokimau. The community applied for electricity connection on 22nd April, 2022 and paid Kenya Power a sum of Kshs. 5,357,417. However, one year later the company had not connected the estate with electricity which caused great financial loss to homeowners as some were unable to move into or let their homes as a result of the lack of electricity. Several efforts made by the committee members of the estate to have the matter resolved proved futile. The predicament of the community pushed Mr. Hassan to seek the intervention of the Commission on 2nd March, 2023.

The Commission by way of inquiry took up the matter with the Managing Director, Kenya Power, leading to the estate being connected with electricity. Mr. Hassan, in an email to the Commission, confirmed the same.
