Government Moves to Streamline Guidance and Counselling in Public Service

The Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) has embarked on a programme to sensitise public officers on existing guidance and counselling services.
The sensitisations across Ministries, Departments, agencies and independent Commissions are part of efforts to disseminate the Public Service Guidance and Counselling Policy which has been revised in 2017.
In line with continuous efforts towards improving the well-being of public servants, in 2008 the Government developed the Public Service Guidance and Counselling Policy.
Staff from the Directorate visited the Commission on 14th November, 2017, to sensitise management on the need to create awareness among staff of the existence of the policy and counseling services available to them.
The officers, Ms. Gladys Asuga (from DPSM) and Mr Munene Mwai, a counselor attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, regretted that although the Government had employed and posted counsellors to regional offices, few staff were utilising their services.
They said it was important for managers to recognise that staff who displayed cases of indiscipline and other undesirable traits need counseling and not punishment to help them resolve challenges they may be facing at work place or at home.
