The Commission has this week held discussions with two international elections observers on how to strengthen the electoral process and enhance integrity of the result.
In joint and separate interactions with other constitutional commissions, the Ombudsman met with a delegation of the European Union Election Observation Mission to Kenya and the Carter Center.
The Carter Center, which is associated with former US President Jimmy Carter, is a nongovernmental organisation which helps to improve lives by resolving conflicts; advancing democracy and human rights, among others.
On Thursday, July 27, 2017, a delegation of the Carter Center paid a visit to the Commission as part of its efforts to understand our role in the electoral process.
The Commission has been an active player in the electoral process and recently issued an Advisory Opinion on the participation of public officers in political activities and use of public resources in campaigns against various provisions of the law.
To discharge this mandate, the Commission has been monitoring political activities with a view to identifying instances of misuse of public resources and the involvement of public officers in partisan political activities.
As a result of this monitoring, the Commission has recommended to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to commence further investigations and prosecution of officers who have been found culpable.
The Commission will also participate as an observer on the election day on August 8, 2017.
