As part of a public outreach programme, the Commission undertook community outreach in Mukuru kwa Njenga, Kiambiu and Korogocho in collaboration with the Ombudsman Committee members of the three informal settlements.
The activities involved setting up a complaints desk at the market place and door to door sensitisation and distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials. During the engagements seven complaints were lodged with the commission with 2,500 IEC materials distributed. Ombudsman Mashinani is an initiative the Commission adopted to facilitate outreach in informal settlements through existing structures. The initiative reaches out to local communities through focal groups known as Ombudsman Committees.
The outreach was carried out in three days, July 21-23, 2017.
